Don't Pass the Bread, Please!
Don't Pass the Bread, Please!
Why this title? Am I trying to be cliche? Am I tired of all the forlorn expressions? Okay, I'll pause, fair enough, as there seem to be a copious amount of questions marks and why not? There seems to be aplenty about my retorts: "Why yes,I am Celiac", "Yep, I am gluten free", Affirmative, wheat makes me very sick", and of course, "Don't pass the bread, please" are the "I am a celiac" and have been probably for most of my life. There is seemingly a plethora of background information on my childhood illnesses and the emergents that occur in later life as a Celiac. However, why bother with the details: RA, Sjögrens, Osteoarthritis, IBD, GERD...sigh.
Anyhow, this blog will forever be the transition I have grasped in becoming a gluten free shopper, baker, home cook and restaurant diner/eater. I am a bit jaded from having to explain my finicky palate in every restaurant, wedding, and invites out as a food allergy (not really). My affliction impels my husband to groan, a bit too loudly if the menu is not palatable towards Celiacs. He is 100% wheat hungry, bread eating Sicilian.
I will also profess here and now that I am not a writer, nor will I take grammar, mechanics or vocabulary lessons. My ambitions (intentions/mission?) are simple: to create a destination for my gluten free journeys of my dining, baking and cooking life in mine and other's kitchens.
There are so many successes in my kitchen these days and I have so many people to already thank: The Great British Bake off Fans Page (Caro, CJ, Diana, Sally, and Nancy B.), Celiac Disease Foundation, Shana Ahern(The Gluten Free Girl), Patti( my favorite hostess),to my many understanding Bunco ladies too! and of course my mom Barbara, who in her late 70s and now late 80s always plans lovely meals for me.
So grab your aprons and a notebook and
Let's make a mess in our kitchens...
Kindly, from my home to yours...
Susan Lynn🎂
